This closed coat silicon carbide belt uses a heavy X-weight (100 grit or finer) or Y-weight (80 grit or coarser) resin bond polyester backing. Its silicon carbide grain will outlast aluminum oxide on softwoods. This belt cuts freer and will not load as readily. It is also used for grinding glass, ceramic, solid surface materials, stone, concrete block, nonferrous metals, titanium and stainless steel.

Second only to diamond in hardness, silicon carbide is distinguished by its sharp, sliver-like grains that allow it to cut efficiently with light pressure. It is widely used for grinding nonferrous metals such as brass, copper, bronze, and aluminum, as well as for glass, wood, rubber, and plastics. Additional applications include finishing polyurethanes, primers, lacquers, and sealers, along with achieving specific finishes on stainless steels. Silicon carbide abrasives are typically black in color.

When loading is not an issue, Closed Coat abrasives offer longer life and lower overall cost, making them a preferred choice in both metalworking and woodworking applications.
Resin bond backings offer greater resistance to heat, are more durable in heavy stock removal applications and provide the best all-around bond system.
